Online programs may prepare students for financial risk management certification
Enrolling in business classes at online universities may help prospective MBA candidates prepare for intensive masters programs in financial risk management, such as the one recently formed by Tulane University.
In partnership with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), the university's A.B. Freeman School of Business has announced the formation of the first graduate program that awards a masters degree in risk management while preparing its students to take Financial Risk Manager (FRM) examinations.
To do so, the program will integrate GARP's FRM training material into graduate coursework.
The program will include "a rigorous course of study" that is intended to "prepare its graduates well for a career in risk management," said Chris Donohue, managing director and head of the GARP Research Center.
Through the collaboration, Tulane will also establish a campus chapter of GARP and become a FRM examination site.
Applications for the new program, which is slated to begin in the spring semester, are currently being accepted. Students accepted into the program will be required to take introductory online courses in December prior to entering the classroom in January.
