Online MBA programs, simulations aim to help women choose careers

In an attempt to help female business professionals find their ideal careers, the Forte Foundation has announced the launch of an online game that gives players a taste of several potential positions.

The organization - a collaboration of corporations, business schools and nonprofit organizations - will begin offering the Forte Career Gal Road Trip game to women who have not yet decided on their career goals or college majors.

Using an online platform, players will have the opportunity to explore several opportunities that are often faced by today's female professionals. Challenges may include leaving the workforce to pursue a campus-based or online MBA, starting a family or sampling several careers based on their college major.

Elissa Ellis Sangster, executive director of the Forte Foundation, said the game was developed in order to enable more women to determine and pursue their career goals.

"Our research of Forte members found that an overwhelming majority would have been interested in pursuing a career in business if they were aware of the options during college," she explained.

A recent study from the organization found that women accounted for 31.7 percent of matriculates at business schools at the start of the 2009-2010 school year.
