Online MBA programs can help students enter the professional sports sector

Business students who wish to work for a professional sports organization may want to consider entering business planning competitions, such as the one that was recently hosted by San Diego State University (SDSU).

For the fifth consecutive year, the school's College of Business Administration invited students from across the country and Hong Kong to participate in its International Sports Business Case Competition.

This year, a total of nine teams of MBA candidates were challenged to write a strategic plan for the new management of the San Diego Padres baseball club. The winning team - which was selected by a panel of the organization's executives and an SDSU professor - received a trophy and premium seats at a local professional baseball game.

Tom Garfinkel, president and COO of the baseball team, said the competition was intended to allow business students to come up with "innovative and insightful ideas" and "creative recommendations on growth options for the San Diego Padres."

Students who enroll in online courses in business may increase their chances of success in similar competitions, which could help them land a job after graduation.
