Online MBA programs becoming more accessible to smartphone users
Students in online degree programs may benefit from the capabilities of smartphones, as some campus-based and online schools are launching applications that could help users of these devices complete their studies more easily.
For example, Western Ontario University's Richard Ivey School of Business has unveiled an application that can be downloaded onto an iPhone or BlackBerry to keep current and prospective students connected to breaking news at the school.
The application sends automatic messages to the user's phone when one of the school's social media sites is updated. Individuals who use the application will also be kept up-to-date on events at the college, and will be able to digitally register for those that interest them.
Users will also be able to access the school's recruiting and admissions YouTube page, which could prove beneficial to prospective MBA candidates.
The application is intended to give students "the information they need through a channel that is relevant to them," said Niki da Silva, director of the school's admissions and recruiting department.
Smartphone users who wish to further their education may be more likely to succeed in online degree programs, as they may be able to access their coursework through these devices.
