Mothers who wish to re-enter the workforce may consider taking online courses that can give them a competitive edge as job prospects throughout the economy improve.

Recent research suggests many companies plan to make more positions available to working mothers, which could prove beneficial to individuals who have worked to improve their education while fulfilling their family responsibilities.

A new study from Regus found that 46 percent of corporations in the U.S. plan to increase recruitment efforts for women with children who are searching for part-time employment.

Prospects for these individuals are expected to be best in the media and marketing sector, as 51 percent of respondents representing this industry reported plans to hire more working mothers.

Guillermo Rotman, CEO of the workplace solutions company, said these findings indicate that "businesses have learned that sticking to a rigid nine-to-five, five-days-a-week mentality with no room for flexibility can mean sacrificing talented workers."

Mothers who wish to enhance their qualifications without compromising their family or professional duties can take advantage of the flexible programs offered by online universities.
