Online courses in law may help students win scholarships
Prospective lawyers may consider enrolling in courses in law-related subjects at online universities, which may enhance their qualifications and help them win scholarships that can help them pay for law school.
Proskauer, a global law firm, recently awarded its first Diversity Scholarship to a first-year law student at Columbia University.
Representatives from the firm selected the student based on her academic achievement, demonstrated work ethic and personal character.
The winner will receive a scholarship equal to half the cost of her second and third year of law school. She also received an offer to work for the firm as a summer associate this year and join the company after she receives her degree.
Allan I. Fagin, Proskauer's chairman, said the scholarship was "designed to recognize law students who have excelled academically and demonstrated special skills and qualities that will make them successful lawyers."
Undergraduate students who wish to become lawyers may consider enrolling in law-related online degree programs that can allow them to gain work experience while they complete their coursework.
