The economic downturn has made competition for jobs in the business sector increasingly keen. Consequently, some campus-based and online schools are partnering with local companies to help their graduates find jobs after they have earned an MBA.

For example, the University of Tennessee recently announced a partnership with B and W Y-12, the federal contractor at the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, that is intended to improve job prospects for business degree candidates, Knoxnews.com reports.

Through the collaboration, Y-12 will offer full-time positions to five students who are planning to enroll in the school's MBA program before they attend any classes. School officials and plant representatives will work together to identify the degree seekers who will best serve the company.

In addition to the promise of employment, these students will have their tuition waived and receive a small stipend, according to the news source.

Y-12 executives hope the initiative will boost the company's business management sectors and lay the foundation for future business' partnerships with graduate schools.

PayScale.com, a research company, reports that MBA degree holder can earn more than $200,000 per year.
