In an attempt to mold students into the professionals the accounting industry will need in the coming years, many companies are working with campus-based and online MBA degree candidates to prepare them for careers in this field.

For instance, representatives from Hughes, Pittman and Gupton, a Triangle Park, North Carolina-based accounting firm, recently mentored students from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School as part of the college's Launching the Venture program, MyNC.com reports.

The program, which is intended to help individuals get their entrepreneurial ventures off the ground, enables students to complete the coursework for credit or as a non-credit seminar series. Enrollees examined a series of topics over the course of one academic year, including opportunity recognition, team building, feasibility, business planning and financing. Professionals from the firm were on hand to offer accounting advice and help students polish their business models.

Similar experiences at campus-based or online schools could help students launch careers in accounting after they graduate. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for these professionals is expected to grow by 22 percent over the next eight years.
