New center aims to answer growing need for healthcare managers

The healthcare field is expected to grow exponentially in the coming years, which has prompted some campus-based and online colleges to tailor their offerings to the needs of this industry.

The University of Miami School of Business Administration is one of these institutions, as officials recently announced the development of a Center for Health Sector Management and Policy.

A bureau of experts - which will include faculty members as well as healthcare management and policy professionals - will use the center as a platform to speak and offer advice to local, state and national governments, federal agencies, the media, trade groups and conference organizers. Furthermore, these individuals will provide training and educational programs for students who wish to enter this fast-growing field.

Visitors to the center will be able to receive in-depth analysis of several current issues facing the health and medical fields, including process improvement, supply chain management, healthcare economics, leadership, physician process management, ethics and compliance, international healthcare policy as well as medical technology.

Professionals who are well-versed in these subjects could see high job prospects in the coming years, as the Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates that the demand for medical and health services managers will increase by 16 percent over the next eight years.
