More colleges launch masters programs to help students become CPAs
In response to the growing demand for certified public accountants (CPAs), many schools are increasing their offerings in accounting.
For example, the Wingate University School of Business has announced it will begin offering a masters degree program in accounting next fall, the Charlotte Business Journal reports.
Individuals who have earned a bachelors degree in accounting may be able to complete the program in as little as one year, while graduate students who have no background in accounting may take two years to earn their masters degree. Individuals who wish to work toward similar certifications at their own pace may want to consider enrolling in online courses before they commit to a full-time degree program.
All degree candidates will need to take 10 classes, eight of which are required, according to the school's website. Topics of study may include advanced accounting, tax issues, entity taxation, auditing, financial accounting theory, financial analysis and accounting research.
Joseph Graham, dean of the business school, told the news source that "the job outlook for accountants remains strong, with the CPA remaining the premier credential in this field."
