While they are pursuing an MBA degree, students may want to consider lending their expertise to local companies in order to gain real-world experience. Fortunately, some schools are allowing enrollees to participate in similar initiatives.

For example, Rochester Institute of Technology allows area businesses to take part in the Capstone Project, which must be completed by students in the school's online executive MBA program.

Individuals at the school, who are enrolled in the MBA program, are split into teams for a period of 20 weeks. During this time, students define and analyze the participating client's problems in various areas, including finance, business strategy, marketing, manufacturing and information systems.

Faculty members at the school, along with company executives, review each of the teams' final analyses during their presentations.

Stanley Widrick, director at the institute, said that the Capstone Project serves as "an opportunity for our executive MBA students to demonstrate their expertise." He added that the school is especially interested in receiving applications from companies that have challenging issues.

Individuals could benefit from earning an MBA degree if they wish to make a higher salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, those who have completed this level of education can make more than $500 per week compared to a person who does not have any college credit.
