Master's degrees available for those interested in science and technology
Environmental scientists are expected to be in high demand over the next decade, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). This is due in part to the fact that there is an increasing amount of problems within the natural world. Individuals who are interested in this industry could benefit from a master's degree with this specialization.
South Carolina State University will provide students with new graduate programs in this field, the Times and Democrat reports. One of these is a master's in energy and environmental science.
According to the newspaper, the Department of Education granted the school $3 million in funding last year. Part of this money will be allotted toward the development of the new program.
Individuals who wish to earn this degree will acquire knowledge about solar, wind and nuclear energy.
Kenneth Lewis, dean of the school's science department, told the newspaper that by learning about these aspects, students can develop ways of producing energy that are less threatening to the environment.
Individuals who earn a similar master's degree in energy and environmental science may have high career prospects after they graduate, as jobs for environmental scientists are expected to increase by 28 percent over the next eight years, according to the BLS.
