Master's degree programs increase to provide more course options
Information systems managers have many fields from which they can choose to launch a career. According to Payscale.com, these professionals may find themselves working within the healthcare, finance or information technology industries.
Individuals who are looking to land technical jobs in any of these sectors may benefit from obtaining a master's degree that specializes in information systems. Luckily, some schools are creating new programs so that technology students will have this option.
Baker College recently increased its offerings for degree seekers who are interested in this field, the Ionia Sentinel-Standard reports. Students will now be able to obtain both a bachelor's and master's degree in information systems over a five-year period.
While some classes for undergraduates will be provided online, the master's degree is available entirely through Web-based courses.
Scott P. Overmyer, the program's director, tells the newspaper that this degree saves individuals money and time, but also "gives [students] an edge with potential employers over other candidates."
Job seekers may want to consider enrolling similar master's degree programs that can increase their credentials, as there will be nearly 50,000 more jobs for information systems managers - many of which require an advanced education - over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
