Masters degree holder launches technology training program for elderly

Due to the difficult job market, even the most highly educated students are having trouble finding jobs for which they are qualified. As a result, several graduates of campus-based and online masters programs are choosing to try their hand at entrepreneurship.

Many of these individuals are choosing to launch businesses or organizations that advocate humanitarian causes.

For example, Brian Maloney - who earned a masters degree in social work from the University of Alabama - recently created a nonprofit organizations that aims to help older persons gain a better understanding of technology, The Crimson White reports.

The Social Network Initiative offers one-on-one counseling sessions to seniors who wish to learn how to communicate using electronic methods. Maloney, who previously worked with older persons in a group setting, said that these individuals may be more willing to ask questions and absorb what they are learning through face-to-face training.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that more than 100,000 jobs for social workers will be created over the next eight years, and that prospects will be best for professionals who commit to work with senior citizens.
