As a result of the increasingly difficult job market, many graduates of campus-based and online MBA programs are choosing to use what they have learned to help volunteer organizations, such as MBAs Without Borders.

BusinessWeek reports that many business school students are deciding to work for nongovernmental organizations after graduation in order to explore potential careers in developing nations. Furthermore, these types of programs can help business students fill gaps in their resumes while the economy is still in the recovery stage.

Individuals who lend their services to these types of programs typically travel to a developing country for a certain amount of time - usually between two and six months. During this period, these individuals use their business skills, such as marketing, management and financial analysis, to solve community-based challenges, such as a lack of clean water.

As companies work to make their business practices more beneficial to society, individuals who have volunteer experience could see improved career prospects.

Last year, the nonprofit sector employed approximately 5.4 million individuals, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
