Major cities lead the way with business jobs growth
Although the labor market may remain tight in parts of the country, some areas have seen gains in new job vacancies during the month of August.
According to the CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index, the number of online job postings last month rose to a value of 79.8, which represents an increase of 1.6 points from the level in July and shows a continued upward trend.
Leading the group of cities with the highest increase in new job postings was Boston at 26 percent as well as Los Angeles (24 percent) and San Francisco (20 percent).
Other cities with significant improvement in August were Houston, Tampa, Florida, and Washington DC.
Regarding different job levels, C-level, VP and director-level positions all rose with the largest gains in C-level and vice president positions. CareerCast.com suggests this may be due to high tech and smaller companies starting to grow again and catching up on nominations for senior positions which stalled in recent months.
Business degrees such as MBAs help pave the way for their holders to compete for some of the most lucrative executive jobs. According to PayScale.com, a research company, average salaries for holders of MBA degrees ranged from $73,510 to $171,583 in 2008.
