Grants fund online master's degree in nursing
Over the next eight years, the healthcare industry will increase by 22.5 percent, producing 3.2 million new positions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Registered nurses (RNs) who are currently working may want to obtain a master's degree, as it could lead to faster career advancement.
Some schools have received funding to provide courses for professionals who are already in the industry. The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing recently received a grant for $812,000 that will go toward a master's degree program that focuses on executive nurse leadership, the Daily Nonpareil reports.
The program is geared toward RNs who may want to land an administrative or leadership role within the healthcare industry. Individuals will obtain the degree through online courses so that they can maintain their current position and daily schedule.
Karen Grigsby, the grant's project director, told the news source that this program "provides opportunities for nurse leaders to develop knowledge and skills to improve the work environment," and that changes in healthcare require an up-to-date education.
RNs may find an online master's degree with this specialization to be beneficial, as the BLS reports that individuals who would like a career in this industry may advance to an administrative role.
