Professionals may find that schools are making joint efforts with businesses to provide easier access to higher education. For example, a partnership between Stanford University's Graduate School and IP Solutions, LLC (IPS) was recently announced. This collaboration will offer a certificate program to individuals who are employed by the government, humanitarian aid agencies, contractors and non-government organizations.

Through the Stanford Advanced Project Management (SAPM) certificate program, the school intends to focus on advanced methodologies through which professionals can acquire the skills they will need when challenges arise in the workplace.

The curriculum allows enrollees to take courses on subjects such as leadership for strategic execution, converting strategy into action and mastering the project portfolio. Advanced management classes will also be offered.

Ray Levitt, director of the SAPM program, said that this is an "outstanding opportunity for government and related employees to get increased access to advanced education in the important disciplines of executing strategy, managing complex programs, leading change efforts and improving organization performance."

Other graduate schools offer similar courses that appeal to professionals. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, programs such as leadership and management training are sometimes required for Federal Government employees who are looking to advance their careers.
