Credit union brings MBA program to the office

Despite the potential payoffs of earning a campus-based or online MBA degree, many working professionals are hesitant to pursue higher education because they worry they will have to take time off of work. In an effort to assuage these fears, some companies are increasing their efforts to encourage employees to enroll in a degree program.

In fact, some businesses, such as the Teachers Federal Credit Union, are even bringing higher education directly to their workers.

The New York-based company recently partnered with Dowling College to hold business classes at its Farmingville offices. Both bachelors- and masters-level courses are available.

Company officials say that the program was created to give employees a convenient way to earn credits toward bachelors in business administration or MBA degrees. Furthermore, the classes were intended to benefit the business by developing a more highly educated workforce.

“The Dowling College program offers our employees an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and supports them in fulfilling their career goals,” said Robert G. Allen, the credit union’s president and CEO.

This year, a total of six students used the program to earn degrees.
