Campus-based and online schools increase their masters-level offerings in nanotechnology

In an effort to answer the growing demand for scientific research and development professionals, many colleges across the country are creating new campus-based and online masters programs in related fields, such as nanotechnology.

Nanowerk.com, a website that tracks this industry, reports that more than 100 courses of study in nanotechnology have been created over the past three years, the majority of which are are masters programs. Individuals who choose to enroll in these programs will examine a wide range of topics through their coursework, such as biology, chemistry, physics, medicine, engineering, electronics and business.

In addition to tracking educational trends in the industry, the website also offers a free job posting service called nanoJOBS, which is intended to link employers to highly qualified applicants.

While these types of services can help recent graduates connect with prospective employers, government analysts say that nanotechnology professionals may not need much help finding employment, as they will have many jobs to choose from in the coming years.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, career opportunities for scientific research and development professionals are slated to increase more than twice as fast as than the average for all other industries.
