California school gains approval to launch new engineering masters program
In an effort to keep up with the fast-growing engineering industry, many campus-based and online colleges are creating new degree programs that can prepare students to work in new segments of this field.
For example, California Polytechnic State University has announced that is will begin offering a masters degree in fire protection engineering this fall, the Adobe Press reports.
Over the course of two years, students will complete 45 credits through classes on subjects such as architecture, construction management as well as civil and mechanical engineering. As a result, they can gain the skills they will need to launch careers in this emerging field.
Fire protection engineers assess the uses of buildings and determine the probable causes and impacts of fires in these structures. In addition, they may work with building and construction managers to find ways to reduce costs and increase safety.
Individuals who have honed these skills through a campus-based or online degree program could see improved career prospects after graduation, as the demand for engineers is expected to increase by 11 percent over the next eight years.
