Business students gain the opportunity to boost their communities

In the wake of the economic downturn, many companies are downsizing their employee assistance programs. A great deal of these organizations are no longer offering incentives, such as relocation assistance, to attract top talent.

As a result, many business professionals are beginning to limit their job searching efforts to their current locales. Establishing a close relationship with their communities has become a top priority for these individuals.

Some campus-based and online schools are recognizing this trend by integrating new community building projects into their master’s level curricula. For instance, Rockford College recently announced the launch of two new MBA tracks that require degree seekers to work with local groups and businesses.

Individuals who are enrolled in the entrepreneurship track will be required to translate what they have learned in their classes to consulting projects with area businesses. Project management students will have the opportunity to develop fundraising plans for local nonprofit groups.

MBA holders who can boast experience with regional businesses may increase their chances of gaining respect in their communities, which could help them land reputable jobs in the future.
