Business school partners with national organization to create new masters program
The University of Connecticut's Business School and the Global Association for Risk Professionals (GARP) have announced a collaboration to help masters degree candidates at the school launch successful careers in finance.
Through the school's new Master of Science in Financial Risk Management program, students will have the opportunity to obtain financial risk management certifications while they work toward an advanced degree. Over the course of 15 months, degree candidates will complete a curriculum that was designed by GARP to help them prepare for the organization's certification exam.
In addition, they will learn theoretical and quantitative analysis skills, and gain hands-on experience that may help them when they enter the workforce.
Chris Donahue, managing director of the GARP Research Center, said the program "combines theory and practice and will play a vital part in continuing to elevate the role of the risk manager in today's business world."
School admissions officers are currently accepting applications for the program, which has gain accreditation from the State of Connecticut and will begin offering introductory courses in the fall 2010 semester.
