Business programs expand to provide MBA degrees online

Many schools provide online MBA degrees so that individuals who are already working, raising a family or in the armed forces can pursue higher education. For example, the State University of New York (SUNY) Oswego will provide this type of program beginning early next year, the Oswego County Business Magazine reports.

Although the school already offers an MBA, it will be the first semester during which students can obtain the degree through a Web-based format. Richard Skolnik, dean of the school's business department, told the news provider that the online courses target individuals who want to enroll but cannot travel to class.

The online MBA is expected to attract enrollees from various backgrounds, including SUNY Oswego alumni and military personnel. Tammie Sullivan, director of the program, told the news source that it is "important to offer [service members] the opportunity to continue their educations and to advance their careers."

Since revamping the program last year, the institution also had a 55 percent increase in MBA degree seeker enrollment.

Students may find that similar online degrees can provide them with the education they will need to land a high-paying salary. For instance, Payscale.com reports that marketing directors who have obtained an MBA could make more than $141,000 per year.
