University set to extend services for online nursing degree program

Officials at Troy University's Dothan campus have recently announced that the school will begin providing additional on-campus support to students in their online nursing degree program.

The program is designed for working nurses who have their associates degree and are looking to obtain their bachelors degree.

Currently, online students are forced to come to the Troy campus to meet with nursing faculty and advisors, but, starting in the fall of 2010, the Dothan campus will begin offering similar services.

"The extension of support services will facilitate the completion of students enrolled in the program and make the program even more attractive to registered nurses who wish to obtain their BSN credentials in the Wiregrass area," said Damon Andrew, dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Troy University has also announced that it will begin renovating its facilities to accommodate three new bachelors degree programs in human services, social work and rehabilitation.

The online education sector grew 13 percent last year and had been growing at about 20 percent in previous years. Nearly one in four students take at least some college courses online, up from one in 10 in 2002, Reuters reports.
