University rolls out new online nursing degree program

On March 1, the University of Texas Arlington College of Nursing will launch a new masters of science in nursing administration program.

The degree offering, which is geared toward working professionals, will allow students to earn their masters in nursing in only 18 months. The coursework will be delivered through a blended model of online courses and hands-on clinical experience conducted at partner hospitals across Texas.

"The Academic Partnership model has been so successful in our RN to BSN program that our hospital partners have asked for the model to be used to teach our graduate programs," said Elizabeth Poster, dean of the UT Arlington College of Nursing. "This model has met the needs of many nurses who prefer the flexibility of time and yet want a first-rate education."

Students enrolled in the program will gain knowledge in contemporary management theory, which is needed to excel in management roles in the healthcare environment, according to Poster.

Online universities may be particularly attractive to adults who would like to acquire new skills but do not have the time to do so in a conventional setting.
