University launches online psychology certificate

Degree seekers who wish to become psychologists may benefit from earning advanced degrees and certifications, as employers often seek applicants with higher levels of education, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. In order to gain job credentials without the commitment of earning a degree, many working professionals are enrolling in campus-based and online certification programs.

Schools such as Capella University are increasing their online academic programs in order to provide access to education to more students. The online college recently announced that it will offer an online certificate in play therapy.

"Whether someone is in psychology, counseling, social work, or a related discipline, our play therapy certificate is designed to help mental health professionals deepen their therapeutic connection with the children they serve," said David Chapman, dean of Capella's Harold Abel School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

The certificate program is designed to educate students based on the guidelines of the Association for Play Therapy. Graduates of the program can be qualified for positions as registered play therapists and supervisors.
