University adds two online nursing degrees
American Sentinel University (ASU), an accredited online education provider, has recently announced the creation of two new online nursing degree programs.
Starting in 2010, the school will begin offering a bachelor of science in health informatics and a master of science in nursing with an infection prevention and control specialization.
"The two fastest-growing industries for jobs today are technology and healthcare," said dean Catherine Garner. "Specialized healthcare degrees at the bachelors or masters level, such as health informatics or infection prevention and control, can greatly improve a practitioner's career options."
The health informatics degree is designed for information technology professionals who are looking to break into the healthcare industry or for medical records professionals who are looking to increase their technological skills.
ASU's specialization in infection prevention and control provides training to students in the area of patient safety and quality control for hospital-acquired infections.
Today, over 3.5 million students are taking online courses and earning online college degrees. At the secondary school level, over 700,000 high school students are taking one or more courses online and nearly 40 states have established state-led virtual schools.
