Students enrolled in online nursing programs can enter scholarship program

The North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International (NANDA- I) is holding a scholarship contest for nursing students in undergraduate degree programs in universities or online schools.

Applicants are required to write an article addressing the use of organization's standardized nursing language (SNL) to promote safety and evidence-based nursing care for patients in a clinical setting. The essays will be judged based on how originally and clearly the author examines the topic.

The first nine entrants will receive a one-year membership to NANDA-I. One applicant will be chosen to receive a $2,000 scholarship to present his or her article at the 2010 NANDA-I/AENTDE Joint International Nursing Diagnosis Congress in Madrid.

After the conference, which will operate under the theme Towards a Global Future for Nursing - Developing Language, Sharing Knowledge, the winning article will be considered for publication in the International Journal of Nursing Terminologies and Classifications.

The contest aims to give the winner "the opportunity to attend an international conference, where they can network with nursing leaders" while "encourag[ing] nursing students to learn more about NANDA-I and SNL," said Gail Ladwig, one of the contest's sponsors.

Online courses may help nursing students learn about developing methods that could help them take advantage of similar financial aid options and gain a competitive edge.
