Organized events aim to inform students about demanding healthcare jobs
The healthcare industry accounts for approximately 14.3 million jobs in the U.S and is expected to generate 3.2 million new positions over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In fact, 10 of the 20 fastest growing occupations are in the medical field, and now, some states are holding week-long celebrations to help inform college students about these types of careers.
For instance, the sixth annual Pennsylvania Health Careers Week (PHCW) recently kicked off. During this celebration, enrollees at post-secondary institutions will have the opportunity to speak with healthcare industry professionals.
Students who attend the PHCW will be allowed to explore hands-on medical career exhibits and learn from recent graduates who are seeking healthcare-related jobs.
Students can ask about featured occupations, such as registered nurse (RN), medical assistant or secretary, pharmacy or radiology technician, dental hygienist, respiratory therapist and clinical laboratory technologist.
Students who attend college to earn a campus-based or online degree in a healthcare-related career will discover abundant opportunities in these fields. For example, there will be 581,500 new positions created for RNs over the next eight years, according to the BLS.
