Online university launches RN-to-BSN program
In order to remain competitive in the workforce, many registered nurses (RNs) are pursuing advanced degrees. Healthcare professionals who hold a bachelor's or master's degree are often qualified for promotions or salary increases.
In an effort to accommodate the growing number of RNs who wish to pursue higher education, many universities are creating flexible online degree programs. These initiatives allow working professionals to continue their education without disrupting their career.
For example, American Sentinel University recently launched an online RN to bachelor's of nursing (BSN) program. The curriculum is designed for newly licensed and veteran RNs who wish to move into leadership positions.
"The BSN degree is a clear preference with employers. If a nurse wants to remain competitive - to encourage job retention and promotion - then she or he needs an advanced degree," said Catherine Garner, provost and dean of Health Sciences and Nursing at American Sentinel University.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of nurses is projected to grow 22 percent over the next eight years.
