Online university adds masters degree in nursing

Grantham University, a fully accredited online education provider, has recently announced the launch of a masters degree in nursing designed to expand the knowledge of professional registered nurses.

The MSN degree, which was developed according to the essentials of masters education for nursing from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, will focus on the areas of case management, nursing education, nursing informatics and organizational leadership.

GU will also be offering an RN option for registered nurses without a bachelors degree who can obtain their MSN by completing 21 undergraduate credit hours and 36 graduate credit hours.

"In the next 10 years, the registered nursing field is projected to grow by almost 600,000 positions," said Susan Fairchild, chair of nursing at Grantham University.

"As hospitals, physician's offices, and community and public health agencies tighten their educational requirements, registered nurses who further their education will have a distinct advantage in the marketplace and better career advancement opportunities," she added.

Online education can be a flexible option for those who are looking to earn their degree but find it difficult to attend conventional on-campus classes.
