College begins accepting students to new online degree program
Loyola College has recently announced that it has accepted the first round of students to the inaugural class of its doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program, which will be the first exclusively online degree of its kind in the state of Louisiana.
Loyola has filled 10 of the 25 available spots through the early admission process for its summer 2010 semester, which is pending final approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
"I looked at the school and what it stands for, and I also looked at programs that would allow me to keep my full-time employment," said Titilola Adebanjo, the first student accepted to the program.
"The online program was very attractive for me as a family woman. I don't have to sit in a classroom for hours," she added.
The DNP program is designed for candidates who hold a masters degree as a nurse practitioner and who are looking to focus their career on women's health, pediatric care or gerontology.
Online education is a cost-effective and flexible option for those who would like to earn their degree but find it difficult to attend classes on campus because of distance, family or work commitments.
