College announces record enrollment in online healthcare program

The Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (FHCHS) has said that as of the Fall semester 120 bachelors degree candidates are enrolled in its online degree program in diagnostic medical sonography.

Established in 2009, the program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, and awarded its first baccalaureate degree earlier this year. It is open to registered sonographers who already hold an associate of science degree in a healthcare-related field and a certificate or diploma in medical sonography.

"FHCHS saw that there was a real need for advanced education in the sonography field and worked to develop an excellent program that allows qualified students to enroll, regardless of where they live," says Charlotte Henningsen, department chair of the program.

Online degrees are a flexible and cost-effective option for busy adults who would like to boost their credentials and improve their career prospects, especially in the medical field where employment is projected to grow dynamically in the next few years.

In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates demand for diagnostic medical sonographers will grow by a dynamic 19 percent until at least 2016, and top salaries in the field already exceed $77,520.
