New or continuing college students enrolled in classroom-based or online degree programs may apply for scholarships, such as those offered by Scholarships.com.

The website, which provides prospective college students with a database of financial aid and scholarship opportunities, has announced it will give financial assistance to students pursuing careers in a variety of fields through its Area of Study College Scholarship program.

Students seeking professions in art, business, culinary arts, design, education, engineering, English, health, history, law, science or technology may receive $1,000 scholarships to help them fund higher education or training.

The program's 2009 College Design Scholarship was given to a student planning to pursue a career in architecture through an undergraduate design program.

Kevin Ladd, vice president for Scholarships.com, said the student won the award because she "very eloquently expressed her background and her goals" in her application essay.

To apply for the 2010 awards, students must submit an online scholarship application and personal essay detailing their educational and professional ambitions. The website, which caters to U.S. citizens of all ages, does not require test score or GPA information from applicants.

Working adults wishing to launch or enhance their careers may consider similar financial aid options that are intended to benefit all demographics of students.
