Video game design students receive scholarships
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that software designers - including video game creators - earned an average of $1,407 per week in 2008. Those who wish to launch careers in this field may be eligible for financial aid.
For example, the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) - a professional video games organization - recently awarded several students with scholarships. Each winner received $2,500.
"Young creative talent has always been the life stream of the interactive arts," said Joseph Olin, president emeritus of AIAS. "The academy is looking forward to being able to continue supporting the academic achievements of those students who are pursuing an interactive entertainment career."
The scholarships were established by the AIAS in 2008 to honor Randy Pausch, former computer science professor and co-founder of the Entertainment Technology Center at Carnegie Mellon University. The Mark Beaumont Scholarship was designed to recognize the former chief operating officer of Capcom North America and Europe, Mark Beaumont.
