U.S. government offers full scholarship to information assurance students
Over the past few years, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has gotten involved with several colleges and universities to recruit potential employees. The National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security designate these schools as National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE).
In order to recruit and retain well-qualified students for work in this field, the DoD created the Information Assurance Scholarship, which is only available to students enrolled in CAEIAE-designated schools. This year, the DoD awarded this scholarship to an adult who is enrolled in Capella University, an online college.
The winner, who is a corporate project manager with 20 years of healthcare experience, is pursuing an online doctoral degree in information technology with an emphasis in information security and health information management. The curriculum for this program has been validated by the National Security Administration's Information Assurance Courseware Evaluation Review Committee to meet the standards of the Committee on National Security Systems.
In addition to the full-tuition scholarship, the recipient will receive a stipend and potentially a full-time position with the DoD after graduation. The position with the government will include the design, development, use and maintenance of critical infrastructure systems.
The government offers scholarships for students of many other subjects as well. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends the government as one of the best places to find tuition assistance.
