In an effort to provide access to education to more students, a growing number of campus-based and online universities are increasing their financial aid options. Many of these institutions are offering tuition assistance in the forms of scholarships, grants and student loans.

For example, the University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law) recently announced that it will cover partial tuition for all three years of school for the class of 2014. The initiative is part of a new effort to provide scholarships of at least one-third tuition to each member of its next class of students. The scholarship packages are funded by private donations.

UCI Law students have received financial support in the past, including full-tuition and half-tuition scholarships.

Other types of financial aid, including guaranteed federal loans and loan forgiveness programs, will also be available to help cover tuition costs and other expenses.

Sallie Mae - a provider of student loans - reports that more than $168 billion in financial aid was available during the 2008-2009 academic year.
