Texans or can finance an online degree program using STARS scholarships

Individuals who wish to pursue an undergraduate or advanced degree at a campus-based or online school may want to consider applying for scholarships, such as those that are available through the South Texas Academic Rising Scholars (STARS) program.

Residents of one of the 22 counties in the South Texas area are eligible to apply for the awards, which may be put toward an associates, bachelors, masters or PhD program at any accredited college or university in the U.S, according to the organization's website. Candidates should also be legal U.S. residents who have earned at least 12 undergraduate credits and achieved a GPA of 2.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

The winners will be selected based on academic achievement, personal strengths, leadership qualities and financial need. March 31 is the deadline for qualified students to submit their applications on the organization's website or through mail.
