Technology council awards scholarships for on-campus and online degree programs
Students enrolled in online courses in technology may benefit from scholarships programs such as those recently awarded by the New Mexico Technology Council.
The organization disbursed fourteen scholarships to female residents of the state at its second annual Recognition Celebration Honoring Women in Technology.
Winners were selected from more than 90 nominees by a panel of successful women in the technology sector. The panelists also hosted a question and answer session on future opportunities and challenges in their industry.
To be eligible for nomination, female students were required to be enrolled in an associates, bachelors or masters program in technology at any classroom-based or online university, trade school or community college.
Awards include financial assistance and mentoring from a member of the council. Mentorships may include informal discussions, internships or participation in professional meetings.
The annual program is intended to "include more women in technology fields" by encouraging individuals to "nominate both traditional women students as well as adult women who are returning to their educational pursuits," according to the council's website.
Students enrolled in online universities may benefit from similar scholarship and mentorship opportunities by choosing to study subjects that will lead them into growing fields.
