Teachers pursuing online masters degrees can earn scholarships
Educators who wish to further their education may pay for masters degree programs at on-campus or online universities through scholarships, such as the one currently available through Liberty Mutual Insurance and Pearson Education.
The two companies have recently announced the winners of this year's Liberty Mutual Learn Return program, which provides financial assistance to teachers who are pursuing masters degrees.
A total of 15 educators were awarded full scholarships to enroll in a masters program at one of Pearson's accredited university partners. This shows an increase from last year, when the companies disbursed 13 awards.
To date, the program - which began last year - has provided $420,000 in scholarships to 28 teachers nationwide.
Winners were selected based on several criteria, including dedication to teaching and responsible classroom practices.
Erin Gruwell, founder of the Freedom Writers Foundation, said the program is intended to give educators "the means to grow professionally and financially without the heavy burden of cost."
Teachers who wish to continue their education may consider enrolling in online colleges that allow them to obtain a higher degree without interrupting their careers.
