Students pursuing online masters degrees may apply for scholarships

Graduate students who are enrolled in masters programs at campus-based or online universities may finance their education by applying for scholarships, such as the one recently disbursed by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).

The organization has announced the winner of its 15th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship for students who have made an impact on their college campuses.

A $15,000 award was given to one student who is currently working toward a master of arts degree in music.

Entrants were required to write an essay detailing an issue they were passionate about and their efforts to address it in their communities or societies.

The multidisciplinary honors organization, which recognizes students in their freshman and sophomore years of college who have successfully transitioned from high school, includes more than 625,000 members from 242 institutions of higher learning nationwide.

In addition to scholarships, members may also take advantage of leadership development and service programs as well as career opportunities.

Stephen E. Loflin, founder of the society, said the NSCS is "making a greater impact" on students by "helping them to reach their goals."

Students who enroll in online colleges may benefit from the offerings of similar organizations.
