In order to provide access to education to more students, a growing number of universities, government programs and private institutions are increasing their tuition assistance initiatives. These programs are often designed to help students who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

This week, Aimco Cares announced that it will provide scholarships to students who live in affordable, subsidized housing. The organization awarding the funding is the philanthropic arm of Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco).

"Strong participation in the communities in which we work and live and support for our young people seeking higher education are two important components of Aimco Cares, and of our company's corporate citizenship values," said Patti Shwayder, Aimco senior vice president.

Scholarships are provided by an educational fund that received a donation of $122,500 at the seventh annual Golf Classic sponsored by Aimco, which has raised more than one million dollars for charitable causes.
