Individuals pursuing associates or bachelors degrees in business at an online university may enter essay-writing contests, such as the Executive Leadership Foundation's Award for Excellence in Business Commentary Leadership National Essay Competition.

The charitable branch of the Executive Leadership Council, which is a professional network and forum for African American executives, named ten undergraduate students from across the country the contest's winners at a recognition dinner themed A New Era, A New Vision: Empowering a New Generation.

Entrants were required to write an essay addressing the topic Diverse Leadership: The Wealth of Our Nation to examine how the turbulent economy may affect diversity efforts at corporations.

The awardees received scholarships totaling $30,000, internships at Fortune 500 companies and a trip to a week-long Honors Symposium in New York City and Washington, DC.

Carl Brooks, president and CEO of the Executive Leadership Council, said the contest is intended to support students who "represent a new generation of leadership and are poised to take their rightful place in corporate America."

Students seeking similar opportunities may enroll in online courses in ethics or entrepreneurship to sharpen their business writing skills.
