Students awarded religious studies fellowships
The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) has recently announced 15 recipients of its various fellowships, all graduate-level students working to attain degrees relating to Catholic theology.

"Studying religion is really studying the human condition and (people's) relationship with God or what is beyond themselves, the transcendent," said Laura Johnston, a fellowship recipient and graduate-level divinity student at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, quoted by the Catholic Review. "Just by studying religion I'm learning about humanity."

The fund is eager to foster the education of more students of theology and spur them into roles as religious and community leaders.

Even though 15 of the fellowship recipients are Catholic, the organization is cross-denominational, in some cases partnering with specific congregations to fund the education and development of students who are considering joining the clergy.

Its cross-denominational purview in awarding fellowships is part of its mission to encourage dialogue among all members the Christian faith. The post-graduate fellowships on offer are only a part of the FTE's financial aid programs; some focus on high school students and others are awarded to people of specific ethnicities.
