Scholarships may benefit students pursuing online teaching degrees
The Kalliopeia Foundation has announced it will renew its annual donation to the American Indian College Fund, which may help students pay for online courses that can launch or supplement a career in education.
This is the fifth year the foundation has provided support for the American Indian College Fund's scholarship program, which has disbursed more than 6,000 awards to Native American students annually.
Of the $40,000 pledged to the fund, a total of $30,000 will be used to provide scholarships to students who wish to pursue teaching degrees to become Native American language instructors. The remaining $10,000 will help cover the fund's general operating costs. The amount the foundation has donated to the fund has increased each year since 2004.
Support to the American Indian College Fund is an extension of the Kalliopeia Foundation's mission to help cultures and communities improve their educational achievement.
Richard B. Williams, CEO and president of the fund, said the award will help "[improve] the lives of American Indian students, Indian Country and thereby [enrich] our nation."
Students with diverse backgrounds may seek similar financial aid opportunities to help them fund an online education in teaching.
