Scholarships could help high school students pursue online degrees in engineering
Individuals who wish to launch careers in engineering may want to consider applying for scholarships that can cover the cost of tuition at a campus-based or online college.
Ameren Illinois Utilities has announced it will award financial aid to individuals who plan to enter similar degree programs through its 2010 Minority Scholarship program.
Students of African-American, American Indian, Hispanic, Asian, Alaska Native or Pacific Islander descent may be qualified to apply for the award, which will be worth $2,500 and eligible for renewal for up to four years.
Candidates must be high school students who are planning to enroll in an engineering-related degree program and have a GPA of 2.6 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Although applicants must reside in the company's service area, the winner can use the award to cover the cost of tuition at any accredited campus-based or online school in the U.S.
The awardee will also be invited to participate in Ameren's internship program during the summer following their freshman year.
Prospective college students may want to consider taking online courses, which could allow them to gain work experience while they pursue a higher degree.
