AccountingWEB has announced the launch of its second annual Accounting Student Scholarship program for those enrolled in campus-based or online universities.

The online news source will provide scholarships for undergraduate students who have declared a major in accounting.

To be eligible, students must have completed at least one semester or two trimesters of undergraduate study in a four-year degree program. Accounting students at two-year colleges may also apply, so long as they plan to transfer to a four-year university to complete their course of study.

Applicants must also be U.S. citizens with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 who have declared a major in accounting by the fall 2010 semester.

To apply, eligible students can submit an application, transcript and an essay discussing the role of social media and how industry professionals can use such tools in their careers.

Students can apply for the $500 scholarships through March 31 of next year. AccountingWEB will select the winners on May 1, 2010 based on the quality and content of their application essay and additional qualifications. Awardees will be formally recognized on June 15, 2010 and will be able to the scholarships toward tuition for the fall semester.

Accounting students with an interest in social media may consider enrolling in online degree programs, as online courses could help them hone the technical skills they might need in their careers.
