Despite the current economic situation, a growing number of private organizations are increasing their tuition assistance programs. These initiatives are often created in order to provide nontraditional students, or those from a specific demographic background, with the opportunity to earn higher education.

In an effort to reward hard-working degree seekers who participate actively in their communities, demonstrate academic excellence and work in order to support themselves, the Michael Lynch Memorial Foundation is awarding $250,000 in grants to aspiring college graduates.

"We are particularly pleased that we were able to increase the number of grant recipients this year, from 10 to 12, due largely to the tremendous success of the annual dinner in March, which raised more than $500,000 for the Foundation," said Jonathan S. Henes, a partner in the Restructuring Group at Kirkland and Ellis who served as honorary chairperson of the Foundation's eighth annual dinner.

According to the foundation, the goal of these scholarships is to provide the means to help change the world, one person at a time, by helping the students of today become tomorrow's stewards of peace and freedom.
