Prospective freshmen at online universities in Pennsylvania may apply for scholarships

Pennsylvania residents who are planning to enroll in campus-based or online colleges next year may consider financial assistance, such as the funding that is currently available through the state's House of Representatives.

The governmental body has announced it will award scholarships to students who wish to pursue higher education at any public, private or vocational school in the state, PhillyBurbs.com reports.

A total of two winners will be chosen to receive the awards, which will be equivalent to the cost of one semester at one of Pennsylvania's public universities. Officials estimate this year's scholarships will be worth approximately $2,500 each, according to the program's website.

To be eligible for this financial aid opportunity, students must possess leadership qualities, a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrable financial need.

Applicants will be required to write an essay that describes William Penn's role in the development of the state and its governing bodies.

Classroom-based and online degree candidates who live in Pennsylvania may also apply for state-funded financial aid programs, such as those available through Savings and Growth Through Education Scholars and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
